Workshop Description: This workshop invites families with youg children to expand the notions of literacy by exploring the interplay of books and movement. In this workshop, families explore a book and try songs and movement games using various accessories for play and movement as families. We will introduce some French, and invite participants to share words in any non-English or French languages they speak. 

We have designed multiple versions of this workshops inspired by the different themes of our performances: yarn and colour, stars, constellations and planets, trees and birds, boats, fish and other marine life… with their own specific book, songs and accessories to move with.

Based on principles of creative dance, participants propose their own movement choices. Parents/caregivers are invited to follow the lead of their children’s movement choices. 

• Workshop Length: 45 minutes
• Logistics:. The workshop can be held inside in a dance studio or multi-purpose room clear of furniture. 
• Maximum capacity: 

• • Family setting: Up to 20 children with their caregivers, if the space can accommodate.
  • Daycare/Daycamp settings: up to 15 children, with their educators (one group may be slightly higher depending on provinces).
  • School setting: one classroom and their teacher(s) and special needs support people (if applicable).

Instructions to families/daycare/schools to send ahead of time: 

No experience is necessary. 

Caregiver (parent or educator) participation is required.

We ask participants to come in clothes comfortable to move in. Shoes may be optional if the floor surface allows. Clothing that covers knees and shoulders is advised. Movements and games can be adapted to include people with mobility restrictions, using chairs, for example.
