Hosting the Language of Movement Professional Development Workshop in your community

Description: This workshop is for those who work with children from ages 0 to 8. It covers the relational movement cycle and some typical stages of movement development. Having some understanding of these topics allows us to better connect with children using the language of movement, while respecting the unique development of each child.

Our research is inspired by babies’ movements from birth and first breath to walking. Together, we’ll practice these simple movements and personally revisit how children learn through their desire to move.

Movement, breathing and even the subtle information communicated through holding children’s hands support the development of the child’s brain and help them learn self-regulation. We’ll learn how to integrate simple movement games into classroom circles, along with songs and rhymes. This workshop can include land-based movement games if we can easily access a park, a beach setting or a forest with trails.

Participants: Up to 30 participants for a workshop taught by two artists, if the space is large enough to contain 30 moving adults. Participants may include early childhood educators, teachers, counselors, educational assistants, librarians and cultural leaders.

Logistics: A space without mirrors or furniture is preferable. We will bring a Bluetooth speaker. The workshop is 90 minutes long. We encourage participants to wear comfortable clothes, bring a notebook, snacks and a bottle of water.
