We held 6 Movement Babytime workshops in 6 branches of Surrey Libraries, thanks to collaborations with Surrey Libraries and financial support from the City of Surrey, Metro Vancouver, and the Province of British Columbia. Our team included artist Ghislaine Doté, flautist Sabrina Mo, dance artists Sarah Gallos and Julie Lebel, and Surrey-based artist mentee Janelle Reid, a wonderful signer, actor, and educator. All our workshops were full, with waitlists! When the room had capacity, we could include 40 babies and their caregivers! In total, we met 235 people small and tall. We played and practiced our Baby Space Opera songs and moved with some of the props in the performance. We can’t wait to meet the families again in April 2026, during our residency at Clayton Community Centre. More details to come! Thanks to all our funder and partners, and especially the library staff with whom we had wonderful conversations about creative and pedagogic conversations to advance all of our practices.
