Workshop Information
1. Contact Improvisation Class
Dates: January 20 – 24, 2025 (Monday to Friday)
Time: 10 AM – 12 PM
Facilitators: Nina Martin and Margaret Sunghe Paek
This class focuses on lineages, attribution, and accessibility in Contact Improvisation (CI) and improvisation practices. Utilizing materials from Nina Martin’s ReWire Dancing States and other Lower Left techniques, dancers will warm up while enhancing their awareness of “dancing in the gap” between preconscious and conscious movements. This approach aims to articulate clear physical communication and compositional techniques for weighted duets and trios. Previous experience with CI is encouraged.
2. Ensemble Thinking Class
Dates: January 20 – 23, 2025 (Monday to Thursday)
Time: 1 PM – 4 PM
Facilitators: Nina Martin, Margaret Sunghe Paek, Karen Høybakk Mikalsen, and Julie Lebel
Ensemble Thinking is an improvisational compositional system that enhances collaborative creation. Participants will explore principal scores of Ensemble Thinking to refine individual abilities to perceive, initiate, and support collective action. The class aims to create a “Big Picture” that supports articulated compositions. Contributions from diverse backgrounds, aesthetics, performance practices, and physical capabilities are welcome.
Perfromance Thursday, January 23rd, from 3 PM to 4 PM. (By donation)

Informations sur les ateliers
1. Cours d’Improvisation Contact
Dates : 20 – 24 janvier 2025 (lundi à vendredi)
Heure : 10h – 12h
3. Cours combiné d’Improvisation Contact + Pensée d’Ensemble
Date : Samedi (suivant la semaine d’ateliers)
Heure : 10h – 12h
Lieu : EDAM — 303 E 8th Ave, Vancouver, BC V5T 1S1
